The action takes place on an icy prison planet, doomed by higher powers to an endless existence. Its inhabitants, ancient immortal warriors, also constantly go through the same cycle of constant death and rebirth, after which their memory is erased.

Someone sleeps in cryochambers, and someone has gone crazy from this eternal suffering and now wanders the corridors, attacking everything that moves. We just woke up – without memory of the past, but with the desire to build a new future, reveal the dark secrets of the planet and find a way out of here.

More precisely, we are infected with this desire by the rare warriors we meet, with whom we can exchange a couple of lines of text – they give hints about what is happening here, talk about our mission and guide us on the path. In general, as in Dark Souls, everything is very dark, mysterious and not really clear. Still, the main thing is Immortal Planet not the plot (although it cannot be called background), but the battles.

As in all similar games, we will fight often and die just as often before we get used to it, learn the habits and tactics of this or that enemy or a particularly large “boss”. The combat system also requires constant concentration and makes you sweat even with one or two opponents. There is a simple blow, a special attack, a block, and instead of dodging you need to make sharp jerks to the sides – and everything uses up stamina.

Latest in Immortal Planet can hardly be called ordinary – there is a spear-sword, an assault blade and a hybrid axe-shield. However, in battle they work much more familiarly than their names sound.

As we progress, we will find other piercing and cutting objects (or you can buy them for experience points), each of which has a special attack – this could be, for example, a sharp lunge with a blade at the ready or an area strike. You will also find consumable items – “healers” (here they are called the blood of the Immortals) and various spells that can be used in battle – “fireballs”, lightning strikes, shotgun blasts, telekinesis, some kind of ray that sets the ground on fire under the feet of enemies, and the like.

You may not be immortal, but you must “pump up”

In addition to your dexterity, calculation, attentiveness and endurance in battle, a lot depends on the “pumping”. Killing each enemy gives experience, but when they kill you (and this will certainly happen, and more than once!), all the “exp” acquired by back-breaking labor will be lost, you will be reborn in the only cryochamber on the level (analogous to bonfires) and begin your journey through the location you have learned by heart again, destroying the same opponents who are waiting for you in the same place. There is only one attempt to return the “exp” – after death again, it disappears into eternity forever..

If you did pick it up, accumulated even more and finally got to the next “bonfire”, then in the cryochamber you can not only change weapons and spells if desired, but also increase the main characteristics – strength, agility, endurance, intelligence, willpower.

And often you have to deliberately “pump up” over and over again on the same enemies at the same level, voluntarily returning to the cryochamber (fortunately, you can always find and open workarounds) in order to become stronger and be well prepared for moving to a location with stronger opponents and “bosses”. But I can’t even call it an ordinary “grind.”. If only because it’s unlikely to be possible to “grind” forever – the more often you increase the parameters, the more expensive their next “upgrade” will cost (in experience points, of course)! Therefore, you have to choose wisely, with arrangement.
