Dota 2 and League of Legends

Good day.
I rarely write on my blog, most often when I’m in the mood and when I have something to say. In general, I decided to express a few of my thoughts on the topic of Dota2 and League of Legends in general.

Preface.
I’ve been playing Dota for a long time, probably since 2008 for sure.Started my hard journey on Battle.net, and I came across it quite by accident since it was everywhere in custom games and by choice I decided to see what kind of card it was. And since then I discovered a new genre called MOBA games. I have played most games of this type – Dota, Hon, LoL, Prime World and am currently playing Dota 2. In this blog I would like to compare two giants of this gaming industry, namely Dota2 and League Of Legends, I think that for all the time that I spent on these games, I still understand them and I think you will just read the thoughts of a person who has been playing this game for a long time. I played HoN for a very decent amount of time, but it died for me at the moment when all Russian-speaking players were thrown into Garena against their will, so I won’t consider it here, and to be honest, I don’t want to.

I will say that at the moment I have spent a lot of time on LoL and Dota and I dare to try to disassemble and compare these games.I will try to write objectively so as not to offend anyone with my statements related to these games. And so, let’s go.

I’ll probably start with this game.
I think it’s not worth describing the essence itself, since nowadays everyone, at least a little bit, understands what needs to be done in games of this kind. At the moment the LoL community is quite large and lively, the game has received a bunch of prizes since 2009 and currently about 3 million people around the world play it every day.The popularity of the game can be seen on all sorts of other sites like own3d.tv,twitch.tv, she gets the largest number of viewers.

On my own behalf, I will say that matches are found quickly and you don’t need to wait too long. There are a lot of heroes in the game (about hundreds, if I’m not mistaken), but this is where the first problem of the game arises, that it is very difficult to balance them, Riots kill some heroes with each patch, kill other heroes, and so on in a circle. To be honest, it has gotten to the point that some heroes in Lola have been lowered so much that they are simply not picked anymore, ala Rumble or Twitch.Evelina was born in general, with every patch she is subject to omissions that you don’t even understand the point of making a hero who is constantly being nerfed.

But the first thing that really catches you is the talents and runes in this game.LoL is the only game that has these functions that work perfectly, and there are no other games similar to this. The gameplay itself is quite smooth and I would even say that it is passive. You can’t finish off your mobs and battles unfold smoothly and slowly. And the game itself as a whole is unhurried, even if you are new to such games you will always have time to react to the danger that arises.

Kneading between teams can last from 20-30 seconds, during which time you are quite capable of carefully considering your actions.Personally, here I think that the game is in trouble, because in my opinion, the player in such games does not have time to think for a long time, but needs to act quickly and decisively, even intuitively, I would say, and the mod that was added to the game called Dominion does not change this situation much, it only creates the illusion of drive and action, but in reality everything still remains dull and somehow slow.

I also didn’t really like that when your hero dies, the nth amount of gold is not debited from your account, and as a result, this leads to another problem in the game. While playing LoL I met a lot of players who just farmed, farmed, farmed. Moreover, this can be more than 1 player, which ultimately results in the fact that essentially the game will be decided by the one who farmed the most, and not some kind of team game tied to pushes, ganks and other joys of mob games. Another thing I didn’t really like about the game is that it essentially can’t be bought, because.Seriously, if Dota 2 is distributed for free with all the heroes, then lol you get 10 heroes for a week, which you play with.

No one argues that heroes can be opened for free by collecting IP points, but to open all the heroes will require an immense amount of time, which, to be honest, really bothered me, since it was easier for me to pay some amount of money to get everything at once and not strain myself, rather than buy them in pieces of 5-10 pieces per pack. In general, to be honest, I was starting to get bored with the game of lol, from its monotony and leisurely pace.

Compared to other Moba games, Dota2 is the youngest, but also the most promising.
Online players range from 30k-50k, but please take into account that the game is still in closed beta testing and you can only get into it by invitation. In general, it’s very difficult to write about Dota, since I’m sure everyone played the first part, I’ll just add that I really liked the design of the characters and things. What exactly I liked about Dota compared to LoL was its dynamism.Something is constantly happening on the map, somewhere someone is killing someone, running along lines, ganking enemies, warding the map, and so on.

Also, I didn’t see any problems with balance at all, each hero is balanced and has its own strengths and weaknesses, patches fix bugs in the game itself, and not in heroes specifically. Another advantage I think is that when you exit the game, ALL heroes will be available in it, and not some limited number, as they did in LoL. Of the minuses, of course, we can say that not all game mods were added, not all the heroes were transferred from the first part to the second, they did not add the “surrender” function in order not to waste extra time on an already leaked game, but all of them are compared to LoL where its minuses are very striking and discourage the desire to play, you simply don’t notice the advantages of the second Dota, but it will be much more difficult for beginners to join it, since the game does not have an endless teleport to the base, and for death they take away gold and feed the enemy who killed you very well, compared to LoL where for 100500 killing an unfortunate newcomer they will give crumbs of experience and money for him.

As for customization, I want to say that in both games it is done at the highest level; in LoL, each hero has at least 2 different, dissimilar skins.Dota2 is a little behind its opponent in this regard, but the customization system was introduced recently, so.I think over time all the heroes in Dota will get their own “hats”.

In general, as a conclusion from this entire terrible wave of text, I want to draw a general conclusion:-
Both games are good, each of them has its own dynamics, graphics, and unique characters.LoL has more of its own chips like Runes, Talents, as well as 4 types of cards, which undoubtedly adds variety to the gameplay, as well as a huge friendly community (well, except for the Poles).
Dota2, in turn, responds with perfect balance, intense game dynamics and amazing voice acting of the heroes, a modern engine, as well as support from the creator of the first mob game Icefrog, t.I’m not worried about the future of Dota at all.

P.S To be honest, I wrote everything at once and tried not to offend anyone too much with my text, in general, enjoy your reading =)

The community is generally the main problem of LoLa.
If in Dota they only hate newcomers who really don’t know what to do, how to get together, etc.n., then in LoLa hatred is everywhere: even if your account is at the maximum (30) lvl, you have bought enough champions, have the right runes and trowels, then it doesn’t matter if you die more than 2 times without first making over 9000 kills (this is sarcasm < — К.О.) — тебя гарантированно назовут noob'ом. У тебя лагнул инет и ты что-то сделал не так — тебя гарантированно назовут noob'ом. В основном такое происходит на EuNE и West.
The game is young, the community is predominantly the same, LoL is not difficult to master, and therefore everyone very quickly begins to put themselves above the rest. Well, and a hellish dislike for Russian gamers… By the way, I myself play LoL, I tried the first Dota – I didn’t understand much, the abundance of stores sometimes just put me in a stupor 🙂 (yes, I’m a damn casual)

The text is generally Nonukcasinosites.co.uk/review/doctor-spins-casino/ ok, but:
that they farmed, farmed, farmed.
The basis of MOBA games
basically you can’t buy it
Speaking of heroes, this can be considered a newbie blocker, you play for the heroes available to you, train, get better, buy the ones you like. This leads to a more conscious choice of heroes, and even if there are runes, this is, in principle, not critical.
I started to get bored playing Lol because of its monotony and slowness
As you know, felt-tip pens differ in taste and color, some like the furious non-stop click of a mouse without the right to think, only reflexes, others like measured tactical action, you can’t please everyone.
I didn’t notice any problems with the balance at all
there are no ideal things, especially since it is physically impossible to balance more than 100 heroes among themselves
patches fix bugs in the game itself, not the characters specifically
If I’m not confusing anything, then the heroes undergo constant editing and adjustment, which can be considered both a nerf and an upgrade.

I personally wasn’t impressed by these “hats”, although Valv’s policy that you can get them for free makes me happy
support from the creator of the first mob game Icefrog
you should learn more about the swearing part

And personal opinion on the games and text:
The advantages of LoL are described very sadly and there is no emphasis on runes and talents, which are one of the main features. Also, unspecified, such an interesting feature as the presence of things that increase not only physical. attack but also magician. which allows you to play well even as mages in the later stages of the game
Personally, I am amazed by the Riots’ attention to the Russian community, at one time almost a RU server was announced (it seems like a year has almost passed), after which support for several languages appeared, including Greek and Romanian, and the Russian-speaking community did not even receive support for their native language
There’s not much to say about Dota yet because it’s still beta

Oh yeah, besides the above. According to the article: the author tried to describe everything unbiasedly, from the outside, but in reality the text gives off a barely noticeable aroma of HUGE, PURE AND IMMACULATE love for Dota. This is not a reproach, but in the future try to step back even further in order to judge sensibly. BTW, I read it with pleasure, although I saw mistakes. Write ischo.

Compared to Dota, the community in Lola is very friendly and more or less adequate; in Dota, every wrong action can lead to such a fight for the whole game that you can ignore everyone)
Regarding the article, I tried to somehow balance everything, but it didn’t work out very well, I confess.

Personally, this Lola trick with runes and masters only depresses me. Makes it difficult to change and rearrange every time. And with runes, they’re generally on guard – after all, I want to play new heroes (or at least old ones, but for variety), but with these damn runes you don’t have time to buy everything. I haven’t played that much, about 400-500 victories, but I don’t have even a third of the heroes, there are very few runes and all this makes me very sad. We can say that the system is used “if you want to be cool, either pay or jerk off”. It’s not ok.

That’s why I only play lol now when my friends call me. And it’s always like this in Dota, then I describe to these same friends in vivid colors how I bent an anti-mage there or flew in beautifully with an ult as a sand king. My friends, unfortunately, don’t have Dota yet 🙁 So I’m looking forward to its release, I doubt that I’ll return to lol.

Interesting article.
Literally a week ago I started actively playing Dota 2 (despite the fact that it had been on Steam for half a year) and the difference with Lol is really big. This week I played 60 games and then went to lol to get a free 150 IP and then I also noticed that Lol was “slow” and the author here was completely right.
P.s. I played Lol for a year and a half, I played 10 games in Dota (which is on WC3) (and then in.club with -wft -ardm just 4 lulz) and then I didn’t like Dota because of its “complexity”, in particular 10-12 stores scattered throughout the database, but Valve corrected this defect and now I’m much more interested in playing Dota than Lol.

I wanted to try Ursa in jungle – please, I wanted to support Omni – who cares, take it and support!

The system of closed characters saved me from a long learning curve, and perhaps from abandoning the game altogether. And they want to play with this and that and this and this, in the end you are nothing, which is constantly being reported, its good?
you, comrade, are arguing from the perspective of an already “experienced” player, although the game should somehow attract players.

and the LVL system, for example, helps you understand even before the fight who you’re roughly aligned with. In principle, the same can be said about skins, but there are too many kids there buying everything they like, rather than people dressing up their favorite Persians, whom they know how to play.

Personally, here I think that the game is in trouble, since in my opinion the player in such games does not have time to think for a long time, but needs to act quickly and decisively, even intuitively, I would say

I’ve played probably three games of Dota, but basically I can already say that Dota is too fast. I don’t agree with you here. games where you don’t have to think, kill purely on reflexes – CoD and the like. 1 against meat, a fight where thoughts only get in the way. Entered the rush and that’s it. And what about LoL, that DOTA games are team games where you just need to think. And when SOMETHING just got the hell out of you (newbie’s view) in less than a second… what the hell is the reaction, I don’t even want to play like that. What killed? How? When? Why?

In general, I like LOL more (because I play more, where are there three Dota games versus a thousand in LOL), but I can note that in Dota the characters are much more interesting. Simply at times. In Lola, unfortunately, despite the abundance of different characters, everything is very meager and primitive – AoE or goal, asset or passive. The whole point of abilities is damage or stun. This is more interesting in Dota. I remember when I dealt with the character and destroyed the creature that beat me 8 times, I screamed at the whole apartment, there was no limit to joy.
what I didn’t like – the level of training was wild. The game stupidly keeps newcomers in front of a wall – either hit your head or go to hell. So which game is more nerdy is still debatable.
The graphics did not please me – or rather the map and effects. On the map, you won’t even know where you can walk, where you can’t, where to wait for enemies, and where there’s a blank wall. The effects of simple abilities can cover almost half the screen – and there’s no use, but the ones that take away the effect – there’s no effect, and you’re dead. Terribly inconvenient. You can also attach a completely incomprehensible moment of impact there. It is not felt at all. Whether you were hit or not? who the hell knows, look at your HP. As for me, there are moments in Dota that do not need to be complicated, they are not simple anyway. And hardcore organized just for the sake of hardcore is stupid.

you can say that lol is for kids, and be deeply mistaken. LoL is a terribly tactical team game, where even if you are losing you can turn everything in your favor. There’s nothing for kids to do here.
I can’t say anything about Dota, I didn’t really play, but after three or four battles the game seemed much more solitary, although God knows what’s there in the upper layers.

the games are different, despite the similarities, and elevating one while belittling the other is stupid

Reason not to play it?) Yes, she is extremely unfriendly to beginners, but all you have to do is be patient, play a dozen other matches, and the insults will disappear. I’m starting to worry that this is why almost lolers hate Dota.

And yes, no one called me a noob in Dota, because when I was (about 6 years ago), I only played with bots and friends (who were just as bad as me).

you, comrade, are arguing from the perspective of an already “experienced” player, although the game should somehow attract players.

Effects, effects, yeah. Everyone has to get used to them at first, even those who played Dota 1. It took me a lot of matches to learn to understand what was happening in the mixes.
As for incomprehensible skills, I can’t recommend anything other than learning them all. Fortunately, there is a “training” tab, where everything is clearly shown (even with video). And of course, everything comes with experience.
That’s it, I certainly don’t think the map is complicated. IMHO, quite simple, easy to remember.

I don’t agree. I really liked the hit animation in Dota 2, much better than the 1st (t.To. The animation time was kept the same, but the animation itself was changed).

you can say that lol is for kids, and be deeply mistaken. LoL is a terribly tactical team game, where even if you are losing you can turn everything in your favor. There’s nothing for kids to do here.

Same as Dota. I won’t argue about where it’s better (I played Lol quite a bit), it’s better to look at the waters of pro games, you’ll understand everything yourself.

Well, I’ll say this, LoL is simple (I won’t say “casual”, few people understand the meaning of the word). If a beginner enters Dota, he will suck, endure, understand nothing, and if he enters LoL, then in a couple of days/weeks, depending on who, he will learn to play and even drag. I don’t know about the scope for creativity, I think there will be more improvisation in LoLa, IMHO.

Haven’t played Dota. But as soon as my friends started talking about her, I didn’t get into the gates of the essence of their discussion. But when I got Dota 2, it seemed easier to me than the first one (I tried to play the first one a little). There is only one store, items are divided into categories, if anything you can enter the name and you can easily find the thing you need. Also, the purchase is very convenient, you don’t have to look for this or that name of one item in order to collect another item. Yes, they don’t like newcomers like me. But it seemed easier to me than the first one. But customization is not a problem, soon, very soon, all these hats will fill the Dota 2 store.

And after LoLa, the huge Dota interface is simply infuriating! This crap crawls out onto the floor of the screen, how can I play like that??

First read what you wrote yourself. I don’t argue that there are comebacks in Dota, but in LoLa they happen no less often. And not only in the games “Folders” VS “Crayfish”. In LoLa, teamwork accounts for 70% of the victory, in Dota it’s about 30-40%. Naturally, in both games, a completely screwed up laning phase leads to a lost game.
